Lucknow, October 24: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Government of Uttar Pradesh is making continuous efforts to integrate children with disabilities into the mainstream of education from an early age and prepare them for school-level education. In line with this, ‘Bachpan Day Care Centers’ are being operated in the state for children with disabilities aged 3 to 7 years. Through these centers, special emphasis is being placed on developing children’s learning abilities, providing educational support tailored to their specific needs, and encouraging their holistic development.

Currently, 25 Bachpan Day Care Centers are operational in the state, with a total capacity of 1,490 children. Out of these, 1,463 children are enrolled. Thus, an enrollment of approximately 98 percent relative to the total capacity of the centers has been recorded. Taking a significant step toward expanding the scheme, the state government has approved the establishment of 28 new Bachpan Day Care Centers in the remaining districts for the financial year 2026-27. This will help extend early education and necessary support facilities to a larger number of children with disabilities.

Bachpan Day Care Centers are currently operational in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Jhansi, Bareilly, Agra, Saharanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Basti, Mirzapur, Azamgarh, Kanpur Nagar, Ayodhya, Gonda, and Gorakhpur. Additionally, new centers have also started operating in seven aspirational districts: Chandauli, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Fatehpur, Balrampur, and Sonbhadra. The approval for establishing 28 new centers in the remaining districts during the financial year 2026-27 will further expand this initiative.

The children enrolled in the Bachpan Day Care Centers include 465 hearing-impaired, 342 visually impaired, 520 intellectually disabled, and 136 children with learning disabilities (LD). ISO Certification for Quality Management

Special attention is also being given to improving the quality of services and operational systems in the Bachpan Day Care Centers. Accordingly, the centers have been awarded ISO certification for quality management and operational systems. This will encourage continuous improvement in the operation and management of services in accordance with established standards.

Government Committed to the Holistic Development of Children with Disabilities

Dr. Amit Kumar Rai, Deputy Director of the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department, stated that the state government is committed to connecting children with disabilities to education from an early age and ensuring their holistic development. Through Bachpan Day Care Centers, children aged 3 to 7 years are being prepared for pre-school education. The enrollment of 1,463 children across the 25 operating centers in the state demonstrates the usefulness of this initiative. The approval to establish 28 new centers in the remaining districts in the financial year 2026-27 will help provide early education and necessary support to even more children.

The goal of the Government of Uttar Pradesh is to provide educational opportunities to children with disabilities according to their abilities and to strengthen the foundation of their bright future by integrating them confidently into the mainstream of education.
