*Lucknow, October 31:* Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing extensive changes in efforts to promote girls’ education. State government has given Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) a new identity by providing girls with quality education, a safe environment and opportunities to become self-reliant. Compared to 2017, the educational system, infrastructure, and opportunities available to girl students in these schools have improved significantly by 2026.

Yogi government’s priority is to ensure that economic and social circumstances do not become obstacles to any girl’s education. In 2017, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas provided education only from classes 6 to 8. Currently, girl students benefit from free education from classes 6 to 12. This directly benefits girls who previously struggled to continue their studies after class 8. Enrolment in these schools has also increased from 72,680 to 88,248.

This rise in enrolment reflects parents’ trust and growing awareness of girls’ education. Girls’ participation in these schools has also risen to more than 50%.Yogi government has also made the scholarship system for girl students transparent and effective. In 2017, the scholarship payment process was inactive, but payments are now being made successfully to girl students through DBT. This has eliminated intermediaries and ensured that the benefits of government assistance reach eligible students directly.

Yogi government has emphasized developing these schools not merely as educational institutions but as centers for the all-round development of girl students. Accordingly, the government is providing upgraded and strengthened school buildings, safe residential campuses, and dormitory facilities. Girl students have a safe place to live, nutritious food, and an environment that ensures proper care. In addition, astronomical labs are being used to encourage interest in astronomy and innovation.

ICT labs and smart classes are being provided to connect girl students with digital education.Students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas are now showcasing their talent not only in education but also in sports, medicine, defence services and technical fields. In sports, girls are being selected for cricket teams and showcasing their talent at the state and national levels. Similarly, in medicine, students are succeeding in challenging entrance examinations such as NEET and progressing towards becoming doctors.

Girl students have also brought pride to the state through their achievements in defence services. In competitive examinations, girls have also set new records by securing selection in UPSC, UPPCS, Lekhpal, teacher recruitment and various departmental examinations. In the technical and digital sectors, girls are making their mark through digital skills, coding, computer education and other modern skills.

Yogi government is creating awareness among girls not only about education but also about leadership skills and social responsibilities. Girl students are taking leadership roles on various platforms, in debates, NCC and Scout and Guide activities, becoming an inspiration to society. In this way, the achievements of girl students in education, sports, science, technology and social activities bear testimony to the transformation taking place.

Yogi government endeavors to ensure that every girl in the state receives equal opportunities to progress and can write a new story for her future through education.*Quote:*“Girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas are being provided free education from classes 6 to 12, a safe residential environment and modern educational facilities.
